Saipan Soccer School concluded its two-month summer camp last Friday with over 100 children in the U10 and U12 age groups completing the program.

The camp wrapped up with participants playing basketball and futsal games at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium and futsal pitch of the TSL Sports Complex. Team 2 made up of Nolan Newaki Yixi Chen, Henry Xue, Rafael Busby, Dean Duenas, and John Peter Quitado ruled the U10 futsal mini tournament after beating Team 5. In the U12 futsal competition, Team 5 of Kohtaro Goto Kristopher Pascual, Cody Shimizu, Christian Guerrero, Paulo Jerome Quitado, Kenny Laquian, and Jim Maniago won in the finals against Team 1.

Team 1, which had Tyran Joe Saures, Andrew Sablan, Eun Ming Cacdac, Merric Toves, Garrett Weaver, and Jeremy Quimzon as members, earlier prevailed in the U12 basketball finals against Team 3. In the U10 division, the champion was also Team 1 of Kadesh Pelayo, Nolan Cultura, William Xue, Anthony Rivera, June Yu, and Mark Ryan Costales. All the first finishers in the basketball and futsal mini tournaments got medals, while the more than 100 graduates of the camp received gift sets and certificates of completion.

SSS staff May Ito, who led the awarding of certificates to the graduates, thanked all the participants and their parents for their participation and hopes to see them join the camp again next year and play in various tournaments on Saipan.

Meanwhile, SSS will kick off the 2017 Youth Summer Futsal Tournament today at the TSL Sports Complex.

There will be games in three divisions: co-ed U12, girls U17, and boys U16. Kanoa 1, 2, and 3, and SSS are entered in the U12, while the girls U17 has Hakone FC, F. Marinos, Isamu United, and Marianas Health Armada. The boys U16 division also has four squads in NMI U16, HK SSS, 4Gives FC, and Kanoa.

Kanoa 2 and SSS will kick off the action in the futsal tournament as they play in the 1:30pm match. Other matches in the opening day are Hakone FC vs F. Marinos at 2:30pm, 4Gives vs Kanoa at 3:30pm, Isamu United vs Marianas Health Armada at 4:30pm, and NMI U16 vs HK SSS at 5:30pm.

The boys U16 and girls U17 have a double-round robin format and all four squads will advance to the playoffs with the No. 1 and No. 4 teams battling for the first finals berth and the No. 2 and 3 finishers colliding in the other semis game. In the co-ed U12, the Top 2 teams after the double-round robin elimination will fight for the division championship. The title matches are set for Aug. 4.
